3rd Prize for schneider+schumacher

In a competition for a new Green Depot plus Urban Restructuring of Wingertsbuckel, schneider+schumacher has won 3rd prize in both categories – in collaboration with landscape architects GTL. The competition was organised by the city of Mannheim and ‘GBG – Mannheimer Wohnungsbaugesellschaft’. Both proposed sites lie outside the city limits and will be surrounded on three sides by a landscaped park where the ‘Bundesgartenschau’ (national garden show) is due to take place in 2023.

The jury commended the design’s ‘highly desirable typological mix’. In addition they admired the concept of the green depot as ‘functional and architecturally interesting’ and also praised how noise emanating from the depot is shielded. schneider+schumacher designed the scheme as a screened-off courtyard with the green shed roofs on three sides sloping down to ground level.
